Joel Acevedo-Nieto, Ph.D
Research Scientist
I am a neuroscientist from Puerto Rico, with a strong interest in the intersection between physical balance, gait speed, and executive function in aging adults. My research focuses on non-pharmacological strategies to preserve cognitive health, particularly in women and older populations at risk for Alzheimer's Disease.
Research Interests
My work examines the relationship between gait performance and cognition using biomarkers, wearable technology, and motor-behavioral approaches. I am currently developing a smart app to assess gait speed using smartwatches, with applications for early detection and intervention in neurodegenerative conditions.
